About This Spot
Stepping into 2 Sisters Cafe at Plumgarths feels like discovering a serene pause amidst a bustling day. Nestled along Crook Road just outside Kendal, this cafe offers a gentle, welcoming atmosphere where time slows down enough to savor the little joys. Whether arriving for a quiet breakfast or a relaxed afternoon tea, the space carries a subtle warmth—bright natural light filters through, mingling with soft chatter and the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
The rhythm here leans toward thoughtful unhurriedness. It’s the kind of spot where the baristas know your usual coffee order or where a stranger’s smile quietly echoes the pride behind each dish served. The fare mirrors this gentle care, expressing heartiness and simplicity without fuss. You might find yourself lingering over a double espresso that’s smooth and carefully pulled, complementing the earthy sweetness of a carrot and walnut cake or the vibrant tang of a rhubarb and ginger flapjack.
Breakfast here feels both familiar and thoughtfully crafted, appealing to those who appreciate honest ingredients prepared with attention. Dishes like scrambled eggs gently folded with parmesan or an egg and avocado toast made with just the right balance invite a relaxed, nourishing start. And when afternoon rolls in, the cafe transforms into a cozy haven for tea — a pot poured with care, accompanied by delicate slices of cakes and the occasional Pavlova, all encouraging conversation and quiet connection.
The staff’s kindness and enthusiasm add an unmistakable layer of ease, turning casual visits into understated moments of joy. While the spot can fill up, especially because of its convenient location near the farm shop and the Lakes, those who find a seat here often feel settled, as though crossing the threshold means stepping into a familiar pause, shared with friends old and new.
For those travelling through or locals craving a comforting start or a sweet retreat, 2 Sisters Cafe gently invites you to savor not just the food and drink, but the atmosphere that makes those simple pleasures linger a little longer.

A perfect stop off if travelling to or from the Lakes. The Smashed Avocado was cooked to order and was a great choice for breakfast. The locally roasted Farrers Flat White - an ideal accompaniment. Such friendly service - well worth calling in you’re visiting the Farm Shop.

Called into this lovely cafe few weeks ago for cake & coffee. Didn't know if they would serve us as it was well after 4 but they were very welcoming so decided to go back for Xmas afternoon tea. We weren't disappointed. Beautiful. I'm so mad at myself, I forgot about pictures until we were well into it. The elderflower presse was so refreshing (I did get photo) you have a choice of cake so we both chose carrot. Great choice of cakes but I can honestly say that was the best carrot cake I have ever tasted. I've only just eaten it today as I was so full when we went yesterday. The sandwich selection was turkey & cranberry, brie & Xmas chutney & egg & possibly chopped spring onion (not too sure) but they were all delicious & on sourdough bread. Ended up taking the turkey one home for tea. Hot sausage roll & beautiful scone. Jam & cream & warm mince pie. There were 4 members of staff on & every single one of them was lovely & attentive, especially the lady with glasses who mainly served us. It was an absolutey dreadful day & wasn't looking forward to the drive there & back from Walney but will have no hesitation in doing it again....&again to sample their food. We will be back for definite.

We came here for an afternoon tea with our friends who we were visiting, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The staff are kind, professional, and enthusiastic. They have such positive attitudes and put pride into their work. The tea was great, the food was divine, and the overall visit was perfect. I wish I had taken photos before we started on the food, these don't do justice to how lovely everything was.

We had breakfast at this café, and it was a great experience overall. The dark orange hot chocolate was amazing, and I really liked that they offered unique options for hot chocolates and a variety of drinks. For food, we had scrambled egg on toast with mushrooms and smashed avocado sourdough with scrambled egg. Both dishes were nice enough, though not particularly memorable. Service was quick, and the staff were lovely, giving recommendations when I asked. One thing I especially liked was being able to see the kitchen - it's just nice knowing everything is made fresh. Overall, a good spot for breakfast!

Really tasty food. Quick service. Reasonably priced. Only negative would be the parking due to the restricted space so may not get parked when busy.

Had a lovely breakfast here yesterday. Very nice hot chocolate and biscoff iced late, treated ourselves with a takeaway tiffin (one biscoff, one cranberry and white chocolate) very quick and friendly service, faultless

Incredibly sausage and egg sandwich on Ciabatta bread. The cafe has a cosy fire and lovely Lake District pictures on the wall. There is a well stocked farm shop too. The cafe is surrounded by artisan bakers, coffee roasters, ginger bakers for award winning cakes and a pie shop. It’s a regular for locals and visitors
